Nail fungus treatment with the ND:YAG Laser

Many nail fungi don’t respond well to the usual treatment methods such as antifungal ointments and nail varnishes. The treatment usually takes a very long time (several months) and the relapse rate is high. Modern laser systems for the treatment of nail fungus provide a new, alternative approach for patients. A clear advantage over the treatment with topical medication is that there are no unpleasant side effects. Additionally, a visible treatment success can be achieved much faster.

How does it work?

Before a laser treatment, in order to remove any adherent fungi, we advise you to have the surface of the nail bed filed down as part of a professionally performed pedicure. Depending on the severity of the fungal infection, 3 to 6 sessions every 1-4 weeks are performed. To prevent a relapse, we recommend one further treatment after approximately 6 months.

Does it hurt?

Treatment with the laser is not painful. Some patients will have a mild sensation of warmth or tingling. This should subside immediately after the session.

How effective is the treatment?

We have found that a combination therapy of laser treatments and the topical application of fungicidal gels will achieve optimal results. In addition, you as a patient can significantly contribute to your treatment success – for example by changing your bed linen and stockings, regularly washing your feet and disinfecting shoes and nail files.
