Our medical lasers (Q-switched ND: YAG and alexandrite lasers) use laser light in high power pulses to lighten or completely remove dark pigment. The surrounding skin cells are not affected. As soon as the pigment particles of a hyperpigmented spot absorb the laser light, they disintegrate into tiny fragments that are broken down by the body’s natural immune system.
The number of treatments required for optimal results depends on the size, location, depth and color of the pigmentation problem. Treatments should be performed with intervals of 4-8 weeks to ensure maximum degradation of pigment material by your own body after each treatment.
The effect of laser light itself is similar to snapping a rubber band on the skin. Due to the integrated cooling of the laser, the treatments usually do not require anesthesia.
Occasionally hypopigmentation and lightening of the skin may occur. However, your natural skin tone should return within 3-4 months after the last treatment. In the first consultation, Dr. med. Rosenberg or our specialized staff will inform you in detail about the risks and side effects and will decide which laser is most suitable for your skin type and your concerns.
